Gwen Goebel’s work referred to by QB Justice in reported decision

In a recent decision (Kretchemer v. Baran) Justice Sandomirsky of the Court of Queen’s Bench, referenced a paper authored by Gwen V. Goebel.  Gwen’s paper “‘Blended’ Family Law: Rights and Responsibilities of Step Parents” looks at the obligations of step parents, including the relationship between a step parent and a step child eighteen years of age or older.

Justice Sandomirsky, having failed to find any case law on point, referred to the paper as having “dealt extensively with the obligations and case law related to the titled topic …[and] confirmed that child support is not a legal right or obligation arising in common law but in statute only”.
