Jennifer will be moderating a discussion with outstanding members of the legal profession in Saskatchewan. Representing the first female CBA Saskatchewan President, the lawyer who was instrumental in establishing Unified Family Court, and recipients of the CBA Distinguished Service Award the session will focus on remarkable lawyers and their careers. The panel qualifies for 1.5 CPD hours.

Congratulations to Darlene Wingerak on her King’s Counsel appointment

In a press release today, the Attorney General announced four additional appointments to those announced in December 2023.

King’s Counsel appointments are based on recommendations from a selection committee consisting of Saskatchewan’s Justice Minister and Attorney General, the Chief Justice of the Court of Appeal for Saskatchewan or Chief Justice of the Court of King’s Bench, and past presidents of the Saskatchewan branch of the Canadian Bar Association and Law Society of Saskatchewan.

“These are outstanding lawyers who have made significant contributions to the legal profession in Saskatchewan,” Justice Minister and Attorney General Bronwyn Eyre said. “Within their different areas of practice and expertise, each is eminently deserving of this designation.”

Tim Hawryluk K.C. Appointed Coroner’s Counsel in James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon Mass Casualty Inquest

The Province of Saskatchewan’s Chief Coroner has appointed Partner Timothy Hawryluk KC as Coroner’s Counsel in the James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon Mass Casualty Inquest. Tim is being supported by a team which includes Partner Candice Grant and Associate Tessa Wall.

The James Smith Mass Casualty Inquest is currently proceeding in Melfort, Saskatchewan. The Inquest is inquiring into the circumstances surrounding the largest mass stabbing event in Canadian history, which tragically resulted in 11 homicides and 17 attempted homicides. The resulting RCMP homicide investigation was the largest investigation conducted in the Province of Saskatchewan’s history, which involved over 500 members of the RCMP, 42 crime scenes, 257 witnesses, and in excess of 121,000 pages of investigatory materials.

The Inquest is reported to be the largest-scale coroners inquest in Canadian history. For more information, click here.
